Aquatest pH 7,4 – 9,0 is used for measurement and control of pH in seawater and freshwater within the alkaline range with an accuracy of 0,2. A simple pH measurement method involves adding a few drops of indicator to the water sample, and then matching the obtained colour with a corresponding colour scale and reading the result.

Proper and relatively stable water pH-value is one of the most important parameters in determining the necessary conditions for healthy fish life, especially in the case of saltwater aquariums.
pH value in the range of 6.0-8.0 is suitable for majority of fish; however some species require more acidic water (e.g. Characidae and Ciprinidae – pH 5,0-6,0), other may require more alkaline water (e.g. Cichlids from the African lake of Malawi – pH of 7,8-8,3). Too high a water pH may cause alkalosis, and too low acidosis. No violent water pH value changes are acceptable in an aquarium with fish, particularly in case of fry and during a period of fish development. To correct pH in marine aquariums, it is highly recommended to use preparations designed for seawater.

Two Zoolek conditioners are used for correcting water reaction in aquariums: Aquacid for water pH lowering (acidification), and Aqualkal for pH raising. pH correction should be carried out gradually to avoid violent water pH value changes in an aquarium with fish at a conditioner dilution of 1 in 100 (20 ml in 2 l of water). After several hours, one must check the pH of the aquarium water with the aid of pH Aquatest. The consumption of conditioners is influenced by many factors, however it is largely dependent on the carbonate hardness of water (KH).
